Fragrance Notes: Like an olfactory ode, aldehydes play their most beautiful role in fragrance by dominating the head of the Liu fragrance and announcing with a cymbal-like chime, rose and jasmine’s sensual scented arrival. Like any piece of music, a fragrance needs to linger with a sense of calm sensuality, which it does with Liu thanks to vanilla’s carnal accents which give way to iris and woody notes. Designed by Raymond Guerlain in 1912, its iconic “inverted heart” bottle is underscored with graceful scrolls typical of Art Nouveau. Its avant-garde stopper, in the form of a hollowed heart, evokes the delicate romanticism of this perfumery masterpiece and represented a real technical feat at the time.
